Glossary
Short Passes
Passes under 40 meters in length, typically used for maintaining possession and quick ball movement.
Long Passes
Passes equal to or longer than 40 meters, aimed to switch play or bypass midfield lines.
Through Passes
A pass played into space behind the defensive line for a teammate to contest.
Crosses
A ball played from the flanks into the area in front of the opponent’s goal, aiming to find a teammate.
Assists
The final pass or action directly leading to a teammate's goal.
Second Assists
The pass or action before the assist leading to a goal.
Third Assists
The pass or action before the second assist in the buildup to a goal.
Shot Assists
A pass or action that directly leads to a teammate taking a shot (not necessarily a goal).
Passes Received
Total passes successfully received by a player.
Progressive Passes
Forward passes that significantly advance the team closer to the opponent’s goal.
Passes to Final Third
Passes that move the ball from outside into the final third of the pitch.
Passes into Penalty Area
Passes that move the ball from outside into the opposition’s penalty area.
Average Pass Length
The average distance (in meters) of all passes made.
Goal Kick
A method of restarting play after the ball crosses the goal line, last touched by the attacking team.
Throw-in
A method of restarting play when the ball has crossed the touchline.
Corner
A kick awarded to the attacking team when the ball crosses the goal line last touched by a defender.
Free Kick
A method of restarting play after a foul, allowing an unopposed kick from the spot of the infraction.
Shots On-Target
Shots that are directed within the frame of the goal and would score if not saved.
Shots Off-Target
Shots that miss the goal entirely.
Free Kick On-Target
Direct free kick attempts that are within the frame of the goal.
Free Kick Off-Target
Direct free kick attempts that miss the goal.
Penalty Taken/Scored
Number of penalty kicks taken and successfully converted.
Offensive Ground Duels
Challenges for the ball in offensive scenarios, measured by success rate.
Defensive Ground Duels
Challenges for the ball in defensive scenarios, measured by success rate.
Dribbles
Attempts to beat an opponent with the ball, including success rate.
Dribbles Against
Instances where a player was challenged by an opponent dribbling, including how many were won.
Aerial Duels
Contests for the ball in the air, usually following long balls or goal kicks.
Loose Ball Duels
Contests for unclaimed balls not under control by either team.
Pressing
Efforts to apply pressure on the opponent in possession to regain the ball.
Clearances
Removing the ball from the defensive zone to relieve pressure.
Progressive Runs
Continuous ball control that significantly advances the ball toward the opponent’s goal.
Own Half Losses
Times possession was lost in the team's own half.
Opponent Half Losses
Times possession was lost in the opponent's half.
Own Half Recoveries
Regaining possession in the team’s own half.
Opponent Half Recoveries
Regaining possession in the opponent’s half.
Pass Interceptions
Disrupting opponent passes by anticipating and cutting them off.
Shot Interceptions
Blocking or cutting off an opponent’s shot attempt.
Fouls
Illegal physical contact or infringements penalized by the referee.
Penalties
Infractions inside the penalty area resulting in a penalty kick.
Yellow Cards
Cautions given by the referee for misconduct.
Red Cards
Ejections given for serious misconduct or two yellow cards.
